Mowery has a history of projects at the Hershey Medical Center and was one of four contractors invited to submit a proposal for the new East Campus Outpatient Building. This new facility represented the second major building as the Medical Center extended the campus to accommodate growth and includes offices and exam rooms with specialized areas for imaging and orthopedic rehabilitation. In addition, accommodations included employee fitness, dining, meetings and training as well as a data processing center.
Mowery’s top priority was to develop value engineering opportunities. After identifying nearly 100 possible options to reduce cost, which were reviewed with the design professional and HMC facility staff to determine if these would merit consideration. In the final proposal, Mowery developed 64 value engineering proposals with costs ranging from $6,000 to $226,000 yielding a total savings of approximately $1,250,000. Of the 64 proposed options, 25 were accepted allowing the project cost to be reduced by $500,000.
Mowery completed the project on time including all IT/data wiring, despite project delays from creating additional proposals.
This project is LEED certified.
