Employee Spotlight – Meet Steve Knaub
by Employee Spotlight |
| January 24, 2019 |A newer member of the team and a 23-year veteran of the construction industry, Steve Knaub, Mowery’s director of design, leads internal design efforts for the firm’s Design-Build projects. A licensed, registered architect in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Florida, Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Drexel University.
Noting that it’s somewhat unusual to be an architect at a construction firm, Steve believes that the impact of the construction industry goes far beyond physical structures.
“In most of the world, people spend a lot of their lives in and around buildings. So, our jobs have a real impact,” states Steve. “We have a wonderful opportunity to improve the lives of people and to reduce the environmental impact of our craft.”
Steve’s excellence as an architect has earned him several professional distinctions including the 2009 American Council of Engineering Companies Pennsylvania Honor Award in the Energy Category for his design work on the Exelon Renewable Energy Education Center at Fairless Hills; the 2015 Engineering News Record Colorado/Wyoming & Plains States Best Project Award and the 2016 Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania Award in the Innovation Category for his work for RTD Denver Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility.
“Steve’s expertise as an architect and director of design brings a different lens to the work Mowery does,” says David Cross, president of Mowery. “We’re very fortunate to have him leading internal design efforts for clients.”
“I believe in Mowery’s values and our foundations,” says Steve. “They – along with the great people here – make Mowery the respected and desirable company that it is. The variety of work and the energy make this an exciting place to be. The Mowery name means quality, transparency and work we always stand behind.”
Outside of the office, Steve is an avid runner and cyclist and enjoys time with his wife Jen and their three school-aged children. He commuted to work almost exclusively by bicycle for ten years – and still occasionally rides to the Mowery offices. A true lover of travel and adventure, he believes “the best day on the calendar is the one that begins the next trip.”
Quick fact: Steve has LEED AP designation (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional).
Did you know? Steve was an apprentice in commercial construction when he attended the Carpenters and Joiners Training Center.
