George School offers over 25 different athletic teams and needed a building to meet the diverse needs of these groups. Plus, demolition of the previous fitness center and construction of the new one was under a tight timeline due to the importance of this building to the school. The school also wanted to incorporate green features (particularly a green roof).
This project site was three hours away from Mowery’s headquarters and the architect was two hours away, creating a challenge for planning in-person meetings and coordinating schedules. The project duration also spanned through two school years, resulting in major pedestrian traffic concerns on campus.
Mowery expertly handled both of these challenges, resulting in smooth project operation. Mowery worked closely with the school to clearly mark temporary on-campus traffic patterns and securely placed barriers around the construction site to keep pedestrians safe. The school also utlilized other facilities for their athletic needs during construction. Communication was key for this long-distance project. Project Engineers, Supervisors, and Superintendents were in constant communication with on-site crews and the architects to ensure the project was on track and in-person meetings occured when necessary.
This project is LEED certified.
