The renovation of Upper Allen Fire Department’s building provided them with numerous features to increase volunteer capacity and run a smoother operation. Private rooms, six bunk rooms, four live-in bedrooms are cutting edge for a department in rural PA and give space for new volunteers from local colleges.
Throughout the construction process, the department remained operational. Mowery handled this challenge with detailed planning between site supervisors to: maintain proper access around the building for fire trucks and vehicles to leave in the event of an emergency; during demolition, the existing building had to be shored while removing structural members and walls of the old office; limit space for staging materials, parking and deliveries.
